Course Descriptions

This course is designed to examine the basics of phonology, in particular the rules, processes and constraints that are employed in the phonology of English. The  goal of the course is to provide students with a basic understanding of phonology and of the sound system of English by means of a combination of lectures discussing the issues and practical group exercises, where there will be an opportunity to practice the principles discussed in lectures. This course is aimed at students with little orno background in phonology.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Menginternalisasi nilai, norma, dan etika akademik (S8)
  2. Menunjukkan sikap bertanggung jawab atas pekerjaan di bidang keahliannya secara mandiri (S9)
  3. Menguasai konsep teoritis bidang pengetahuan tertentu secara umum dan konsep teoritis bagian khusus dalam bidang pengetahuan tersebut secara mendalam, serta mampu memformulasikan penyelesaian masalah prosedural. Menerapkan pemikiran logis, kritis, sistematis, dan inovatif dalam konteks pengembangan atau implementasi ilmu pengetahuandan teknologi yang memperhatikan dan menerapkan nilai humaniora yang sesuai dengan bidang keahliannya (KU1)
  4. Mampu menunjukkan kinerja mandiri, bermutu, dan terukur (KU2)
  5. Mampu melakukan proses evaluasi diri terhadap kelompok kerja yang berada dibawah tanggung jawabnya, dan mampu mengelola pembelajaran secara mandiri (KU8)
  6. Mahir berbahasa Inggris lisan dan tulisan dalam konteks keseharian/umum, akademis, dan pekerjaan setara tingkat post-intermediate (KK1)
  7. Mampu berbahasa Inggris lisan dan tulisan pada minimal satu bidang Bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan tertentu (English for specific purposes) setara tingkat intermediate (KK2)
  8. Mampu mengadaptasi/budaya pemakai bahasa sasaran yang positif ke dalam budaya bahasa ibu (KK3)
  9. Menguasai konsep teoritis ilmu kebahasaan (linguistics) dan aplikasinya dalam pembelajaran (P6)
  10. Menguasai teknik berkomunikasi lisan dan tulisan umum (general English) setara tingkat post-intermediate dan untuk tujuan tertentu (English for specific purposes) setara tingkat intermediate dalam konteks keseharian atau umum, akademis, dan pekerjaan (P11)

It is also intended to give some materials and exercises to overcome the common obstruction (because of different characteristics of the mother tongue and the target language, and fossilizations) faced by non-native speakers of English as a Foreign Language Learners when they are producing spoken English.
