Course Descriptions

 English for Specific purpuses: Guidance and Counseling  is the need-oriented aspect of the process of learning that enhances communication because the use of the language is forced by the situation, and in the case of Guidance and Counseling students, communication becomes less constrained since they are already ‘in the field’. Guidance and Counseling students can express their ideas more freely when the subject matter discussed is about matters around counseling problems. It also develops vocabulary, structure, communicative and writing focuses in the area of psychological matters.

The course leads the students to acknowledge the integrated skills of English covering listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It is aimed at assisting students to acquire basic skills of English as well as providing them exercises to function effectively in performing English both in oral and written. This course covers the lectures on passages and their exercises, vocabulary, structure, and written and oral exercises. Classroom activities are focused on lectures, students’ performance, and test. The course assessment is based on the sum of the students’ attendance, assignments, mid-term test and final test.

Learning Outcomes

1. SKILL

  1. Acknowledge  and comprehend the basic skills of English to effectively be applied in their daily activities in the form of both oral and written.
  2. Apply the integrated skills of English covering listening, reading, writing, and speaking in the psychology context.

2.  KNOWLEDGE

a. Acquire the basic skills of English  through learning experiences of  passages and their exercises, vocabulary, structure, written and oral exercises.

b. Master  the content of passages, the English vocabulary, and English structure.

3.  ATTITUDE                                                                   

  1. Committed in applying English basic skills covering listening, reading, writing and speaking in their daily context  and psychology context.
  2. Be creative, honest, and responsible in answering English questions in the form of both oral and written and in constructing English sentences.
